Waney Edge Shed with Natural Larch Cladding
The Wichenford is a rustic, handmade waney edge shed built around the same principles as the heavy duty WTP shed collection, but clad in horizontal rough sawn larch boards with the natural waney edge left exposed. This gives the shed an organic, textured appearance that complements traditional, listed and rural environments in a way that smooth shiplap cladding simply cannot, making it the natural choice for country homes, farms, farm shops and historical properties.
Waney edge means the boards are cut from the outer section of the tree with the natural bark edge left intact, so the surface of each board has an irregular, organic profile rather than a clean straight edge. This creates the distinctive rustic finish that defines the Wichenford, and unlike painted or stained cladding, larch can be left completely untreated if you prefer: it will weather naturally over time, gradually turning a warm silver-grey that many owners find even more attractive than the fresh-cut colour.
Security is built into the design rather than added as an afterthought. The 800mm wide single door is fully framed with concealed hinges, so no exposed hinge barrels can be leveraged, and it's fitted with an award-winning Euro profile long throw lock with a high security 6-pin barrel and a stainless steel locking bolt. Five keys are provided as standard. No windows are incorporated by default, which further reduces the visibility of stored contents.
Construction, sizes and installation
The framework uses 70 x 50mm C16 timber rounded and planed for a smooth interior. The floor is 22 x 125mm matchboard (finished 19 x 120mm), the roof uses 16 x 125mm matchboard (finished 12 x 120mm), and all builds are fitted with 24kg polyester charcoal felt. Lead times vary seasonally as this is made to order.
This waney edge shed is available in 9 sizes from 6 x 6ft up to 10 x 12ft, with sizes measured as gable end width followed by depth. Enhancements including windows, insulation, internal lining, guttering and an EPDM roof upgrade are all available. We stock a range of OSMO timber treatment products if you'd like to treat or stain the larch.
Complimentary installation is available to customers in B, DY, GL, HR, WR, WV and WS postcodes. Priced from £1,772.46 to £4,008.00 depending on size, the Wichenford can be ordered online or by visiting our Worcestershire yard.
What is the current lead time?
Lead times vary throughout the seasons as the Wichenford is made to order. Please contact us to discuss current estimated production times before placing an order.
Can the larch cladding be painted rather than stained or left natural?
A painting service is available. Please contact us to discuss if you'd like the Wichenford delivered in a specific painted colour.
What is larch and is it a durable cladding timber?
Larch is a naturally durable softwood that is well suited to exterior cladding without necessarily requiring pressure treatment. Its natural oils make it more resistant to moisture and decay than many other softwoods.
Warranty
All our timber is pressure treated and guaranteed against rot and decay (fungi) for 10 years. To extend the life of your shed further, we recommend treating it with an appropriate exterior preservative per manufacturer guidelines. As authorised OSMO stockists, we recommend their UV Protection Oil, Natural Oil wood stain or Country Colour satin finish range.
Important considerations
Your base must be firm, level and at least the size of the shed floor. We always recommend concrete or slabs. Our installation teams use vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes and will need direct vehicle access to your property for several hours. If you're in a controlled parking zone, please arrange a permit in advance. There must be no overhead obstructions such as branches, cables or arches. Please advise us of any issues before production so changes can be made in time.
If the assembly team considers the site unsuitable on the day and you choose to proceed, you accept responsibility for the structural integrity of the building and indemnify Worcester Timber Products against any future issues. If the team must leave before completion for reasons beyond their control, no refunds are applicable and additional charges may be levied.
