Side Storage Shed for Narrow Side Passages

The Astley turns the often wasted space at the side of a house into secure, weatherproof storage. It's designed specifically for narrow side passages rather than open garden positions, and its compact footprint combined with a single door makes it far better suited to restricted access than a standard garden shed.

At just 3ft wide, The Astley is also narrow enough to fit most side passages while still holding tools, sports equipment, garden accessories and smaller garden machinery. The 4ft and 5ft width options give more room if your passage allows it, with all three widths available in lengths from 6ft up to 10ft, giving 15 size combinations in total.

The pent roof slopes from left to right, with the highest point on the left and the lowest on the right, giving a compact and unobtrusive profile close to a house wall or boundary. If you need the reverse pitch, the Netherton offers identical construction with the slope in the opposite direction. The single door is available left or right hanging, so you can configure it to open in whichever direction gives the most practical access for your layout.

Construction and materials

The framework uses 70 x 50mm rounded planed CLS timber for a smooth interior. The floor is 22 x 125mm matchboard (finished 19 x 120mm), the roof and door use 16 x 125mm matchboard (finished 12 x 120mm), and the shiplap cladding is 16 x 125mm (finished 12 x 120mm), all double nailed with stainless steel nails.

Every shed is fitted with 24kg polyester charcoal felt.The door is fitted with traditional medium tee hinges, a brenton padbolt and two turn buttons. A 70mm long throw 6 pin barrel lock from the GATEMATE range can be added to your basket and fitted at no extra charge. All timber is pressure treated and carries a 15 year guarantee against rot and decay.

Can I fit a bicycle or lawnmower in this shed?
A 4ft or 5ft wide side storage shed typically has enough room for a standard bicycle or push lawnmower, depending on the length you choose. A 3ft wide version will suit smaller items and upright storage more comfortably.

Are bespoke sizes available for unusual side passages?
Yes, bespoke sizes can be discussed. Please contact us before ordering if your available space doesn't match the standard size options, and we'll advise on what can be built to meet your requirements.

Is 3ft wide enough to be genuinely useful?
Yes, for most people a 3ft wide side storage shed gives adequate space for long-handled garden tools, sports equipment, smaller power tools and garden accessories. If you need to store a bicycle upright or a lawnmower, a 4ft or 5ft width is usually more practical.

Warranty

All our timber is pressure treated and guaranteed against rot and decay (fungi) for 10 years. To extend the life of your shed further, we recommend treating it with an appropriate exterior preservative per manufacturer guidelines. As authorised OSMO stockists, we recommend their UV Protection Oil, Natural Oil wood stain or Country Colour satin finish range.

Important considerations

Your base must be firm, level and at least the size of the shed floor. We always recommend concrete or slabs. Our installation teams use vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes and will need direct vehicle access to your property for several hours. If you're in a controlled parking zone, please arrange a permit in advance. There must be no overhead obstructions such as branches, cables or arches. Please advise us of any issues before production so changes can be made in time.

If the assembly team considers the site unsuitable on the day and you choose to proceed, you accept responsibility for the structural integrity of the building and indemnify Worcester Timber Products against any future issues. If the team must leave before completion for reasons beyond their control, no refunds are applicable and additional charges may be levied.
