Side of House Shed to Fit Your Passage Layout

The Netherton is a handmade side of house shed designed to turn underused space at the side of a property into secure, weatherproof storage. It works in the same way as the Astley but with the pent roof sloping in the opposite direction, which makes it the right choice when your passage layout, house wall or boundary requires the higher point of the roof to sit on the opposite side.

Construction and materials

The framework uses 70 x 50mm rounded planed CLS timber for a smooth, professional interior. The floor is 22 x 125mm matchboard (finished 19 x 120mm), the roof and door use 16 x 125mm matchboard (finished 12 x 120mm), and the shiplap cladding is 16 x 125mm (finished 12 x 120mm), all double nailed with stainless steel nails. Every shed is fitted with 24kg polyester charcoal felt, which outlasts conventional shed felt and extends the life of the building.

The single door opens outwards and is fitted with traditional medium tee hinges, tamperproof screws, a brenton padbolt and two turn buttons. A 70mm long throw 6 pin barrel lock from the GATEMATE range can be added to your basket and fitted at no extra charge.

Sizing and installation

This side of house shed is available in 15 sizes, in widths of 3ft, 4ft and 5ft with lengths from 6ft up to 10ft, with the single door available left or right hanging. Sizes are measured as gable end width followed by depth. All timber is pressure treated and carries a 15 year guarantee against rot and decay. How do I know whether I need the Netherton or the Astley?
The Netherton and the Astley are mirror images of each other with the pent roof sloping in opposite directions. Think about which side of the building should have the most room for the shed, then contact us if you're unsure and we can advise.

Can I see the Netherton before ordering?
Yes, a model is available to view in our display area at the Worcestershire yard, so you can assess the build quality and get a feel for the size before placing an order.

Is 3ft wide enough to be genuinely useful as a side of house shed?
Yes, for most storage uses a 3ft wide shed gives enough room for long-handled tools, garden accessories and smaller items. If you need to store a bicycle or lawnmower, a 4ft or 5ft width is usually more practical.

Warranty

All our timber is pressure treated and guaranteed against rot and decay (fungi) for 10 years. To extend the life of your shed further, we recommend treating it with an appropriate exterior preservative per manufacturer guidelines. As authorised OSMO stockists, we recommend their UV Protection Oil, Natural Oil wood stain or Country Colour satin finish range.

Important considerations

Your base must be firm, level and at least the size of the shed floor. We always recommend concrete or slabs. Our installation teams use vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes and will need direct vehicle access to your property for several hours. If you're in a controlled parking zone, please arrange a permit in advance. There must be no overhead obstructions such as branches, cables or arches. Please advise us of any issues before production so changes can be made in time.

If the assembly team considers the site unsuitable on the day and you choose to proceed, you accept responsibility for the structural integrity of the building and indemnify Worcester Timber Products against any future issues. If the team must leave before completion for reasons beyond their control, no refunds are applicable and additional charges may be levied.
