Narrow Garden Shed with a Long Window for Natural Light

The Battenhall is a handmade narrow garden shed with a distinctive long, narrow PERSPEX window that runs along the upper section of the building, letting in a generous amount of natural light without giving a clear view of the contents inside. It's built for anyone who wants the security benefit of a well-enclosed shed while still having enough daylight to work and organise comfortably, without having to fit artificial lighting.

The narrow garden shed's window is positioned along the upper wall rather than at eye level, it keeps the interior well lit while reducing the visibility of stored items from outside, giving you both daylight and peace of mind.

Construction and materials

The framework uses 70 x 50mm rounded planed CLS timber for a smooth, professional interior. The floor is 22 x 125mm matchboard (finished 19 x 120mm), the roof and door use 16 x 125mm matchboard (finished 12 x 120mm), and the shiplap cladding is 16 x 125mm (finished 12 x 120mm), all double nailed with stainless steel nails. Every shed is fitted with 24kg polyester charcoal felt.

The single door opens outwards with traditional medium tee hinges, tamperproof screws, a brenton padbolt and turn buttons in a black finish. The PERSPEX clear cast acrylic used for the window has outstanding clarity, is harder wearing than glass and carries virtually no colour bias. A 70mm long throw 6 pin barrel lock from the GATEMATE range can be added to your basket and fitted at no extra charge.

Sizing and installation

This narrow garden shed is available in 15 sizes from 3 x 6ft up to 5 x 10ft in widths of 3ft, 4ft and 5ft, with the single door available left or right hanging. Sizes are measured as gable end width followed by depth, and the pent roof slopes from left (highest) to right (lowest). We stock a range of OSMO timber treatment products to help protect and extend the life of the building.

All timber is pressure treated and carries a 15 year guarantee against rot and decay. Complimentary installation is available to customers in B, CV, DY, GL, WR, WV and some HR postcodes. What makes the long narrow window different from a standard shed window?
The long narrow window runs along the upper wall rather than at eye level, which lets in a good spread of natural light while keeping stored items less visible from outside. It's a different approach to glazing that balances light and security more carefully than a conventional shed window.

What is the difference between the Battenhall and the Astley or Netherton?
The Astley and Netherton are both specifically designed for use at the side of a house, have no windows and are of the same narrow widths. The Battenhall is a narrow garden shed intended for open garden positions and adds the long narrow window as its defining feature.

Can this shed be used in a narrow side passage?
The widths of 3ft, 4ft and 5ft are comparable to the Astley and Netherton side sheds, so it could physically fit in a narrow passage, but it's designed and positioned as a general narrow garden shed rather than a dedicated side-of-house building.

Are bespoke sizes or enhancements available?

Warranty

All our timber is pressure treated and guaranteed against rot and decay (fungi) for 10 years. To extend the life of your shed further, we recommend treating it with an appropriate exterior preservative per manufacturer guidelines. As authorised OSMO stockists, we recommend their UV Protection Oil, Natural Oil wood stain or Country Colour satin finish range.

Important considerations

Your base must be firm, level and at least the size of the shed floor. We always recommend concrete or slabs. Our installation teams use vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes and will need direct vehicle access to your property for several hours. If you're in a controlled parking zone, please arrange a permit in advance. There must be no overhead obstructions such as branches, cables or arches. Please advise us of any issues before production so changes can be made in time.

If the assembly team considers the site unsuitable on the day and you choose to proceed, you accept responsibility for the structural integrity of the building and indemnify Worcester Timber Products against any future issues. If the team must leave before completion for reasons beyond their control, no refunds are applicable and additional charges may be levied.
